This is a really wonderful classic story. Romantic but a little dark and gothic in it. You never really feel like you know what's going on.
And the main character....she really draws you into the story and pulls you along. It's a book that's hard to put down.

One of my favorite things is a truly well written story and I have to say that Rebecca is definitely one of those. This is a story where really not a lot happens but yet everything happens. This story is a mystery, it begins with a young girl who is a companion to an older lady. One day the young girl comes across a wealthy older widow, Maxim de Winter and they seem well suited to each other. I love this book. It is so beautifully written. I love the descriptions, the atmosphere, the story kept me glued to the pages. I didn't know much of anything when starting this book. It did drive me a little crazy at first, especially when her name was alluded to but never said.

As for the characters though, I didn't particularly like any of them at first Maxim was critic

A total masterpiece. So moody. At first I kept comparing it to Jane Eyre, but it really has too many original things about it. I love it! I'm pleased to have found something with a similar mood to Jane Eyre, but with a whole new & original story. I stayed up most of last night reading it, couldn't put it down! ...more

Great listen and a window to that time and place. The second wife really rubbed me the wrong way until I tried to remember that women had no rights or say in the time period. Great book for emphasizing communication between husband and wife:):) Not as spooky as I was led to believe.
