Shelves: worst-reads

I was so excited to read this book. It seemed so mysterious, exciting and fun by the synopsis. However, it is so boring and slow. I thought this book was going to be action packed. A fierce competition, two magicians dueling? Another reviewer called them slugs and I have to agree. There is no excitement. It not even a duel, more like a collaboration in making the circus bigger and better. I've been reading this on and off for a couple of months and taking breaks to read others in between. I think any time that I take a break from a book is not a good sign. It means I got bored. But, I guess I did keep coming back so that makes it worth something.

The stories were interesting and I did like the idea and concept of the magic and the circus.

I, however, love character development through a book. I normally want to feel like I understand why someone acts a certain way or makes the choi ...more

It was more of a 3.75 then a 4 but with Goodread it seem it all or nothing.

Not saying I didn't like the book. I did.

I just find it hard to come to grip with giving this book the same status as some of my true favorite, life changing book of my past.

But three stars seem to little.

Shelves: fantasy

This was such a fun and whimsical novel, so full of rich and vivid imagery that I really hope that they turn it into a movie! The only thing I didn't like was that the time frame kept shifting after only a few pages, wwhich made it a little confusing at times. But still, the author did such an amazing job bringing the circus and all of its characters to life that I would love to be able to visit it....or maybe join it!! ...more
