What Members Thought

I liked this book a lot because there was a lot of moving around for lack of a better term. It was an unconventional read and was always interesting. I loved that it was true, that it was her life and that it was a success story as cheesey as that sounds. I felt that it ended abruptly though and was a little disappointed and it was a bitter sweet ending- sad. This book is not for a bleeding heart type person but it allows you to see the struggle of American poverty.

Touching, moving and inspiring. A memoir can sometimes get bogged down in the details, or spend too much time in childhood. A good memoir and a good story have much in common: balanced detail told in a compelling voice. This is a great memoir; Jeannette Walls draws you into her life experiences and emotions and had me hanging on to every detail, feeling the cold, the hunger, the rejection and throughout, the love, grit and determination.
