I admit it, I'm a sucker for the sordid details of a bad childhood--and Jeannette Walls' was worse than most. But she so tenderly holds the images of her parents up, that even when you are in paroxysms of rage at what they've done, you also know that she loves them still--and that makes the difference in this kind of memoir. Her tenderness covers every page, and every bleak chapter of her life. She's a person I'd like to meet and talk with.

This book was absolutely stunning. It read extremely quickly, so it can easily be finished in less than a day. Everything that Jeannette Walls portrays from her life and family situation growing up truly hurts. I'm amazed that her family actually lived this way, but at the same time, her story tells of love, loyalty and trust (at times). This is the kind of story that you realize makes us who we are in the end, with our passions, loves and goals. This was just brilliant.

i almost gave this five stars. she talks about her tribulations without feeling sorry for herself. great read.
