Ike and Buddy in many ways are so different, but yet have some similarities. Both have been in prison and both of their married sons were tragically murdered. When the police aren't moving rapidly enough, they take matters into their own hands. Each has to overcome the feelings they had with accepting their gay sons and their murder.

This was different than the standard mystery/thriller. Although there was a lot of action, especially the latter half of the book, there was significant character d

"Folks like to talk about revenge like it’s a righteous thing but it’s just hate in a nicer suit"

I knew this would be an emotional read. The beginning was tough - such a tragedy for these 2 fathers to meet at their son's funerals. But as they band together and become fierce and determined, I was so hooked on the story it was hard to stop.

Without a doubt, this was a novel about revenge. But it was also about heartbreaking loss and unremitting regret. I do not think I've read another book like this where one minute it is action-packed and full of suspense and the next minute makes you break out in tears. Sometimes this happens in the same minute. It flowed pretty quickly, not many dull moments at all. I didn’t want to stop reading and that hasn’t happened in a while. It was so well written, I felt as if I had a rolling movie in my head the entire time. I would have to define it as a modern day, suburban western. ha!

Completely engrossing. I love books where the human connection causes small growth and change in such a meaningful way.
