Living in the desert southwest, you are reminded of Native American history on a daily basis...but it's often easy to stop looking past the touristy pieces of daily life. One of the reasons I read and love non-fiction is for these reminders of what has passed and what we should have learned from, especially when it's so easy for us to isolate ourselves in today's day and age.

This read like a thriller for the first 2/3rds of the book. I have never heard of the Osage murders so I didn't know who had been responsible or if they had been caught. I had to find out the answers to both questions. I was appalled as I read about how the Native Americans had been treated by the government and the white people of the town and state. I hadn't known that Native American adults had been deemed unfit to control their own money and that they had to have a white guardian on top of e

A stark account of the Reign of Terror endured by the Osage people in the early 1920s. The author did a great job of keeping me interested from start to finish. Interesting, factual and easy to read. I didn't enjoy learning how terribly the Osage were treated by some people, but I enjoyed the author's writing style.
