As a novel this book is fascinating and exciting, as history it is horrifying.

The Osage Indians (Native American) live on tribal lands rich with oil deposits in Oklahoma. This makes them rather wealthy. However, the US Government deems them "incompetent" and their finances are managed by wards and guardians - rich white men. Not surprisingly, the Osage are being murdered for their holdings and these crimes go unsolved until the fledgling Bureau of Investigations becomes involved, determined to seek out the guilty as their first real test of their department.

An interesting read which takes on the Osage murders of wealthy Indians which seemed unstoppable and unsolvable. This gives rise to the current FBI and how it came about.

It gives us the chills to read how the current organisation which we all take for granted had its roots in the wild west where there was so much wealth and violence.
