A quick, page-turning read. Glam and a bit superficial on the surface (everyone's a good-looking surfer, pro athlete, or model/movie star), but one layer down, the novel is about the anatomy of a family (and all families, really). This book chiefly explores: what it takes to be a parent, the damage inflicted on kids who are left to flail without a role model, and the ways in which we rise to fill these deficits.
