It took me a while to start enjoying the story. The writing sounded very Hansel-and-Gretelish, by which I mean a children book you read to the kids you've been assigned to take care of at a cold winter night. Half way through the book, I started relating to the characters and seeing myself inside the scene. I liked it, and I can see why this book been getting so much attention. ...more

Fredrik Bachman is hands down my favourite modern day author. I just love how he creates people who are real and complicated. I love how he is able to make even the most grouchy, standoffish person be more than someone you avoid including in your life. I just love how he works with words to create the most beautiful, evocative stories that remain with you.

I love this book. I particularly love Fredrik Backman's ability to work with words in a manner that is genuine and relatable. He's simply brilliant.

This story wove such a spell over me. I know I've cried before when reading a book, but I don't remember when I was so moved to tears by so many characters.
