I originally picked this book up hesitant. I knew it a story about a woman in Afghanistan. I have heard stories of how woman are treated there and I was worried I would want to argue too much with the book to get through it.
Instead, it is a story about a woman. Well, more than one, but really a story about women.

I was completely engrossed and emotional with this book. I couldn't put it down and I am so glad I didn't. Beautifully written!

It is so heartbreaking to know that people, especially women have had to live like this! A Thousand Splendid Suns is a great story about love and friendship. I cried and cried reading it, but am so glad I did.
I loved this book. Although historical fiction it teaches us what living in Afghanistan was like when the Russians came in and then the Taliban. Mothers trying to care for children in the midst of war, people falling in love, trying to eke out a living. Its very eye opening.
