I was surprised to find that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I devoured it in 3 days.
I normally like to read light books and more often than not they are romance!
This however, was different. It was deeper.
It started off slowly and I didn't think I would get into it. I pushed through and once Laila's character was introduced the book moved very quickly. This book opened my eyes to all that women in Afghanistan have to endure: domestic abuse, horrific war and oppression on women. How terrible that Mariam at age 15 is forced to marry a man who is 20 years older than her.
