This book was worth the wait. A two-month wait, specifically, the time I was on ice via my library hold.
Monique Grant is an early-career reporter yearning for a meaty assignment. Evelyn Hugo is an elderly Hollywood icon. When Monique is asked to write a feature on Evelyn, by request of the actress, she can’t for the life of her figure out why.
No spoilers here but the ending ruined it for me. Up until then it was an absorbing tale.

4.5 stars. Aspiring writer Monique Grant is hand-picked by aging actress Evelyn Hugo to write her final biography. The heart of this story-within-a-story is the search for truth about what it means to be a family and discovering what are you willing to do to protect those you love. I enjoyed that the book touched on some difficult subjects like domestic abuse, the objectification of women, and what it meant to be in the spotlight but, most of all, I liked the overwhelming theme that love is love
