I sort of loved this book. I hate to admit it, because I rather dislike the genre of "celebrity autobiography," but this book is well-written and when I was reading it I felt as if I were back in a little bubble of optimism and relaxation that I have not seen in a long long time. This book was simply lovely. I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by Michelle. I felt like I was hearing a story from a good friend. She shared her story with amazing candor and grace. Although I've been a fan of the Obamas for years, I didn't know a lot about Michelle's background. It was fascinating to hear the spouse's perspective of the campaigns and the presidency. It's so refreshing to read such an honest, personal and authentic memoir involving politics. These days, so many seem to be about posturing, striving, image-making. This one is just honest. And its message is one of hope and possibility of what a person can become. It also reminds me of how far our country has fallen in four years - from one of honest aspiration to one of chaos, manipulation and narcissistic nonsense.

I had heard great things about this book and went in hopeful that it would not disappoint. What it did was far exceed my expectations. I truthfully had little background on how accomplished Michelle Obama was in her own right. I was so interested to not only hear her back story, but I was also amazed at how much she peeled back the onion on being the wife of a political leader. So many interesting stories and so many moments showing not only her humanity but her intelligence.
