This book was good, but so slow.
I think the timing may have had something to do with how slow I found this, as I've read multiple fast paced thrillers and horror this month, and I just felt like this was moving so slowly.
Masha was pretty fascinating, and I loved getting to know her and what made her do the things she did. But my favorite character was Yao. ...more

I like the way Moriarty introduced the characters to this tale. I felt that she let us know the characters. I liked the way you got to know each character foible by foible. They all seemed quite real. I couldn't wait to know their secrets - they had to have secrets why else were they are a "health retreat".

I've lived in Australia and have spent many holidays there - yes this is an Australia that I know.

Don't think this will be a "Big Little Lies", this is a different beast, but still enjoyable. ...more

Shelves: drama, suspense, best-ever

I don’t give out 5 stars very often, but I absolutely loved this novel! I loved the individuality of each character, as well as the inner narratives that they had with themselves. I’ve read quite a few of her novels before, and I approached the holistic health center with a bit of trepidation, excitedly looking forward to the crazy twist that her novels always have, and wondering if all 9 guests would be alive when the retreat was over. Hate to do this to Liane Moriarty but this was not one of her best. The premise was very promising: nine strangers all go to a health retreat to improve themselves. During the 10 day stay they were locked in a yoga room after their smoothies were spiked. At this point the rest of the book went off the rails.

I did not enjoy this book. It was the first book that I have read of Liane Moriarty’s and it appears I made a poor selection, as I have heard great things about her other books. This book had a multitude of characters that meandered around with not much happening. I found it boring and really struggled to finish it.
