This was a very sad look at a family. One that has learned too long ago that not saying something keeps everyone from having to face it. They also view the world and their relationships only through their own eyes - with never a thought to what the other person might be saying or what lens the other person may view through.

My my my this is a tough one. Incredible book and well-written by Ng - I mean we all have family issues, but showcasing how various members of a family all experience the same event differently is rarely done as well as Ng does it here.

Now - we all have skeletons in our family closets... luckily my bones came out of ours many years ago. Granted - there's plenty more where that came from!

A superbly written, redeeming family drama. Tragic, sure, and set in the 1970's with the easier to see skewed gender roles, racial bias, etc, it was both disturbing and enlightening (in a wtf? kind of way).
It's not for those looking for something light or humorous. But if you want to sink your teeth into a complex, well paced family drama, you've come to the right book. ...more
