WOW. This book was flippin’ amazing. 4.75 rounded up. It’s my second favorite of King’s, behind 11/22/63.

He swears some in this, but it’s toned down from his usual amount, which I appreciated.

Fair warning, this is a scary book, and there are a few pretty gruesome scenes.

ETA (Edited to Add) 6/19/25: I thought I should say—this isn’t scary like “It” or “The Shining” or “Pet Sematary” (which I straight up cannot read because they will give me nightmares), but it’s suspensefully scary, if that mak ...more

An unspeakable crime, an open & shut case, or maybe not. The first part of this book is very suspenseful, a plausible, yet horrific scenario that could happen anywhere. I don't generally have any trouble believing that the seemingly good guy can commit the unspeakable, but Terry Maitland does seem completely innocent even if there is forensic evidence against him. How could he have been in two places at once? I began getting a little nervous turning out the lights.
