It's rare that I read a book I can respect all of, but this one definitely hit a home run. It had a world different enough that I could appreciate the fantasy but that felt very grounded - as though the author didn't have to strive to make up any details. Cashore writes beautifully and simply while conveying the struggles, emotions, and growth of Katsa, a Graceling. The concept of Gracelings and the dynamic of the Seven Kingdoms made for an interesting world that I would like to visit again soon. It is interesting that this is the second YA novel I have read lately with a female protagonist whose warrior like status lead to questionable life circumstances (usually servitude to someone else), and eventually the epiphany of free will. I read and reviewed this book some time ago - but I must have accidentally deleted it from my shelves of something weird and lost that information, so I'm going to try to remember the book and what I had to say about it.
It was a quick read, I'm pretty sure I read it all in one sitting. The world-building was really unique and I loved Katsa and Po's relationship - it was more organic than a lot of romances in books these days.
