Good story about an 18 year old bride that is challenged by her husband and his family who are a bit "odd" from the very beginning! Historical fiction set in Amsterdam in the 17th century.. Nella is ready to assume the role of wife to a successful sugar merchant, BUT his sister Marin who has run his life up to now isn't ready to step aside. The characters are great and the mystery of just who the miniaturist is draws you in early in the story.

This book is set in Amsterdam in the 1700's. Bella Otterman travels from the country to the lavish house of her husband. A husband she only met on the day of her wedding. Within in minutes of her arrival it becomes apparent she is not going to be readily accepted. The dynamics of the house and the secrets of it's members are the basis of this book.
