A very satisfying space opera, with characters that are very fascinating. Evil is strange, indeed, but the protagonist has a number of quirks that equal or even surpass her object of revenge.

Honestly, I had no problems with the gender labeling. The idea came across perfectly clear that sex had nothing to do with the story, and I appreciate the whole attempt for what it is. The fact that a whole society defaults to a "she" and doesn't find any grammatical desires to differentiate was refreshing a

I really do like this story. The idea of the ancillaries is so unique and brilliant. I love the idea that an AI can extend itself into multiple bodies, but still function as one mind. I really, really enjoyed this book. The scope, the incredible POV(s), the characters, the world building - everything about it was engaging. Fresh and yet with a classic feel.

I am fascinated by the developing relationship between Breq and Seivarden, by the challenging use of one gender (to my preconceptions) and the whole multiple personality syndrome (literally).

I received the first 100 pages as part of the Hugo voting packet. Those pages were so compelling I had to go out and buy the book.

In a few pages Leckie creates a culture and a universe as rich and detailed as anything in Tolkien or Cherryh or Gibson, a fresh one never seen before and yet completely believable. A main character both human and not human, and entirely fascinating. A story both classic and new.

This is excellent sci fi. Nebula - and Hugo - well deserved.

Interesting take on first person narrative. The universe is intriguing too. Look forward to more.
