Esse é um dos primeiros livros de séries que mais amo. É um início praticamente perfeito (o final é um tanto corrido, na minha opinião) mas o livro em si é o perfeito início para uka série tão incrível. Desde o prologo maravilhoso que começa o livro como nenhum outra a história, personagens e tudo que nele ocorre.

This story was amazing! It took me so long to finish this, but wow was this story worth it! Robert Jordan certainly made this story very detailed and very informative. He introduced so many memorable characters, and the whole story was entertaining from start to finish! What helped me get through the last 300 pages was checking out the audiobook from my public library and listening to the story being read to me as I was reading along with my own copy. I've finally read the first Wheel of Time book! Overall I enjoyed this, though it has very obvious similarities to the Lord of the Rings. However, Jordan does enough to differentiate the story and sets up a completely different world to get immersed in. All in all a good set-up for the series. Looking forward to starting the next book.

Some likes:
-There are prominent female characters who play an important role, though their characterization is not always up to par (see below).
-World-building - J I've finally read the first Wheel of Time book! Overall I enjoyed this, though it has very obvious similarities to the Lord of the Rings. Some likes:
-There are prominent female characters who play an important role, though their characterization is not always up to par (see below).
-World-building - Jordan does a great job at setting up a new world. There is some historical lore in there, but not enough for you to get bogged down. It is put into context most of the time and fits in with the current story.
-Descriptions and imagery - I for one like descriptive storytelling, and don't mind additional length to get there.
-The side characters - Thom Merrilin, Loial, and Elyas are all very interesting characters.

Some annoyances:
-While it is great that there are female characters, Jordan unfortunately makes them seem sometimes one-dimensional. Egwene is always giving sharp looks and getting annoyed when anyone questions a decision of hers. Nynaeve is just always angry, mistrustful, and scowling. Moiraine is somewhat enigmatic; while she plays a large role, we don't really get to know her too well. I feel like the male characters are better developed, but hope that the females get their own multi-dimensional personalities in the books to come.
-Why does Jordan need to make every name sound super unique and new? It honestly took me a while to get used to the names; they seem to be trying too hard to be different.
-I was hoping for a little more growth from the main characters, especially the boys. There is some, for some characters more than others, but some of them take very foolish actions up until the end of the book. Haven't they learned anything from their travels and dangers they've encountered?
-The end resolution was a bit rushed and not too well explained. Knowing how many other books are in the series I'm not too annoyed, but it was a bit anti-climactic. ...more

The “Eye of the World” is a fantasy novel written by Robert Jordan and is the first book of 14 in Jordan’s Wheel of Time Series. Initially I was planning on doing a review of the series as a whole instead of a stand-alone, but I really wanted to get this one out there and discuss it a little. I am currently working my way through the series and I probably won’t do a review of each individual book, or I might I really don’t know I’ll probably just decide that as I go through them so we’ll see.

I’ll start with what I didn’t like about it. First, the word had in past perfect tense I felt was used too many times. For example “She had had two cups of coffee for breakfast” grammatically correct but to be honest when I’m reading that it’s often distracting and Jordan does it constantly in his writing, it was just something that would pull me away from the story.
The other thing I found distracting is describing someone’s action “with a start” He awoke with a start. He got on his horse with a start. What does that even mean? I know what it means I just wish Jordan had written those lines a little better. Maybe found a different way of using description. Again these are just nitpicky things that distracted me about his writing, maybe that will change as I get further in the books and he’s gotten more experience. I don’t know. I’m only about half way through book two right now.
Another thing that stood out is the story itself I found drew a lot from King Arthur and Lord of the Rings. Nothing necessarily wrong with that I mean most story telling is evolutionary not revolutionary and this was written like 30 years ago which I think was just kind of the style, this was all just very noticeable to me.
Now for the good. While there are typical fantasy tropes I thought that Jordan does a fantastic job creating his world, and fleshing it out. I like that he doesn’t hit you with chapters of describing his world right off that bat but instead lets the world and it’s in depth history unfold through the characters and their actions. I enjoy the magic system, where it’s not really magic-per-say. I just like that there are rules and it’s not just magic for the sake of magic. Overall the story is great I’m really getting into it and I don’t read very much fantasy which is something I’m trying to change and expand on. I really enjoyed the first book and I’m currently enjoying the second. So far it’s fun and exciting and so far it’s definitely a series I recommend if you like fantasy.

I am re-reading the series with a buddy group. Here is where the magic starts and it is incredible. In some respects, it is better the second time around as all of the details that Robert Jordan wove into this makes more sense.

I'm having a hard time with this one. I can't stand some of these characters. The male lead is a wet noodle. At least kvothe had a personality! Morraine better not be an uptight bitch in the show the way she is in this book Lord of light help us! I don't know why people talk crap about GRRM's female characters when the females in this book are reduced to strangely jealous sniveling shrews or wildly hot headed "emotional" craziness. This is an amazing start to what seems like an amazing fantasy epic. The characters are rich and the struggle against evil feels real. Rand and Egwene have a great relationship and their tension is played out superbly. Power displays aren't overused and build the suspense of the novel quite well. ...more
