I really enjoyed the story but when Ms. Snyder comes to our library this fall I am going to have to ask her about her endings! SPOILER ALERT: (Well probably not.)When Opal and Kade realize they love each other couldn't they have like a month at a tropical location before they have to go their separate ways to finish what they started! Seriously! Let me enjoy that they found each other. Then because he trusts that she's smart and will do well ... they can follow their own paths. I don't want the ...more

So I thought this book was good. I liked Opal a lot and love the new characters introduced and was happy there were a lot of our old favourite characters from the study series in this book too, although I missed Valek terribly (sniffles) however I didnt love this book as much as the study series I was disappointed that Maria created a story about warpers again seems they were covered and dealt with in the study series I was expecting something new you know? I remember seeing Magic Study at my local grocery store in the book section, usually limited to cheesy westerns and romances, and the NYT bestsellers. As a college kid, scrounging for cash to spend on important items like drinks and food for that weekend, art supplies for class,and the ever present need for beading materials, the cost of getting a book on impulse seemed wasteful.But I convinced myself that the cover was pretty, it was about magic, and my friend wanted to read it after I was done I remember seeing Magic Study at my local grocery store in the book section, usually limited to cheesy westerns and romances, and the NYT bestsellers. As a college kid, scrounging for cash to spend on important items like drinks and food for that weekend, art supplies for class,and the ever present need for beading materials, the cost of getting a book on impulse seemed wasteful.But I convinced myself that the cover was pretty, it was about magic, and my friend wanted to read it after I was done. Also being a college student I sat on the book for the better part of a couple months, waiting till christmas break 05 or 06 to read it. Not knowing any of the main plot points or characters of the first book- Poison Study, I was inclined to give up on it. I'm glad I didn't. Fast forward a few years to a college grad with way to much free time. I remembered that there was a first book to Magic study,lovingly snuggled on my shelf of books I "really liked".So I did what every under employed bibliophile does, Raided the library. Not only did I check out Poison study, I was delighted to find there was a 3rd book, Fire study. Now while I greatly enjoyed the first study book, I found the last a little out of place. It had the best parts of the first two, the Keep, and Janco and Ari in Ixia, but the plot with the Warpers and Yelena in fire seemed odd. In fact, I had read these books some time almost a year ago, so all i remembered was that Opal captured the bad guys in glass, and Valek hid them. Not much to go on for the set up of the next saga. I was delighted to find important plot points I had forgotten were kindly reminded or mentioned in passing. If you were reading the books back to back, it might be a little tedious, but if you had a year off like I did, it was very welcoming.
As for this book itself, It was satisfying, but I did not like Opal as much as I liked Yelena. I probably related to her more, minus the losing a sister part, but It was like taffy in ones teeth, sweet, but uncomfortable.
As for her relationships, I found it fickle. back and forth so easily. Did she care for the real Ulrick, the fake, or Kade? 3 way triangle? That seems a bit excessive. Delvins blue eyes had me trying to figure out if it was really Valek, but I knew Yelena would not be that ok with a spy mission. Or would she?
Over all I liked it, read it much faster than I have of a lot of books I have read recently which is saying something. ...more

I loved Opal's character. She was very intriguing, human and likable. I loved the different characters in the book. I couldn't put the book down I carried it around with me everywhere in case I had a spare minute to read. ...more
