What Members Thought

With a strong and gripping beginning, this book completely enveloped me and I could not put it down. I was eager to get back to this book and finish it. I read into the early morning, hungry for the adventure and it's undercurrent of romance. The author created an engrossing story and wrote very well, and my favorite part about this story was that it was clean. Not a lot of cussing unless it was practically necessary (used from angry characters) and no sexual scenes.

I loved this book! It was not overly complicated with just enough twists to keep it interesting. I loved the idea of a female poison/food taster and the world that Snyder created was both rich and different than what most fantasy worlds look like. I gave this 5 stars because it was truly such a fun read and what more can a bibliophile ask for? :)

I don't know why this is classified as a romance. There is a love-interest in this, but really.... a romance? Yes, the two main characters are male & female, so I guess that's why. Hmmmm... do they fall in love? You just have to see, BUT that is not the focus of this book.

Yes, I love young adult fiction. This one was actually very well written, though a bit predictable. Nonetheless, I'm going back for books 2 and 3!

Yelena is a murderer, lives in Ixia a military dictatorship. She is given a second chance to live by becoming a food taster for the Commander.
I love this book. It's an intriguing fantasy tale with great characters you can fall in love with. The wonder of senses (smell and taste) to detect poison is fascinating. Yelena will to overcome her harsh life and strong will to survive is empowering.
Definitely a casual read, simple and refreshing. ...more

LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!
This book was a definite page turner. It got my undivided attention from the first page all the way to the end. There's tons of action and just the right amount of romance.
I have to say this will be in my favorite stack of books.

WOW! This book is amazing! The evolution of each of the characters was unpredictable. And the subtle romance made the story more appealing. I'm now in book 2!
