My tag-line for this book would be (in homage to Point of No Return starring Bridget Fonda): The government gave her two options: die today, really fast or die at some other unknown date in a really slow, painful, unpredictable way...

Surely I know I would choose the slow, painful, unpredictable death if I thought it would save me for today, but it's so tempting to say, "Well, wouldn't it be nice just to get it over with." And yet, despite the world being against her, Yelena still chooses life--e

I saw "Fire Study" on the library shelves, and searched if there was a part one. Turns out It was already part Three.

I loved the fact that to me, the poison tester premise was wholly new. And really enjoyed the book, from one end to the other. The surprises, the lack of graphic sex, the goofiness at times.

One downside is the lack of strength in dialoge. While there's no lack of details, which is perfect, I'm glad i wasn't inundated with them, the dialoge just isn't it's strong point.

If you ask anyone who saw me during the week I read this brilliant series, they would’ve told you I looked feverish and crazed. It was so hard to peel my eyes away from the pages that I put off writing a paper and skipped classes until I read through to the end. The last book that had this spellbinding effect on me was Twilight (book 1) and before that, Harry Potter. Yelena is the most compelling female character and could probably give Aragorn a good fight.

I happened upon this book by accident but am so glad I read it. I'm also glad that it was part of a series. I've actually met Maria V. Snyder and she is a nice lady. She is really down to earth and I love her story of writing Poison Study and getting it published. It is a great action/adventure story with a strong woman lead character. There is a romance, but it doesn't overshadow the plot line. ...more

Poison Study is a romance book where the romance is incidental and so briefly consumated it takes a back seat to the various murder and treason which is encountered. While I may have been intimidated by the size of the book, I was compelled to complete the book, and even perhaps to complete the series.

This book was super! I was pulled in immediately. It was an excellent love story but the meat of the novel focuses on Yelena and her struggle to overcome her horrible fate. I can't wait to read Magic Study. ...more
