As I read Diamonds new book, I simultaneously went back to reread this one as well. Because I taught world civilizations to sixth graders, I read this to enrich my backstory of some of the civilizations that are classically presented as rising and falling. The most interesting ones were the smaller societies which never came into world dominance. Mostly, it helps fully understand unintended impacts of imperialization.
