What Members Thought
I had seen The Dresden Files TV show, and while the actual show takes a bit of a different approach, this particular novel is almost directly translated in what was the "pilot" episode. I honestly felt that episode was horrible (mostly because it did not relate to the rest of the series due to the liberties they decided to take), but this novel was actually pretty entertaining.

I did enjoy this first Dresden Files book. The only bits I didn't like where the casual narrator speaking to the reader. I think those kinds of elements take away from the story, make you aware that you're reading a story, versus letting yourself go and melting into the story as if you're some entity just looking in on the happenings. I'd be curious to read more in the series.

It was a decent read but just not really my thing. The storyline was good and i liked the Characterisation of Harry Dresden. It felt a little too "biff, baff, boof" - a bit comic hero - for my liking and although i sort of enjoyed it i don't think i would search for others in the series
