This series was one of my favorites as a child. I can't count how many times I've read it. The last time I read it was back in 2008. Meg Murry is an awkward teenager whose father has disappeared. She's close to her 4 year old brother Charles Wallace who talks like he is in high school. On a stormy night Mrs. Whatsit appears on their doorstep. Soon Meg, Charles Wallace and Calvin (a smart kid from Meg's high school) are whisked off with Mrs. Whatsit and her two companions to rescue Meg's father. ...more

This one is actually a re-read for me. I originally read it back in the late 1960s, while in elementary school. I remember not really understanding it then; fortunately, I kept on at reading (just look at me now :0)) This time around, I understood the story better. Events happen randomly, characters are unbelievable (except for Meg’s mom), there was a slam at big families (Calvin’s), and it just wasn’t that good a story.

Great book! I remember reading this with my Dad growing up--and reading it again recently made me realize what a difficult book this can be for kids.

In a new publication of this book, there's an afterward that discusses the astrological truths to this book. This is a must-read for anyone who was stimulated by the idea of space travel and what life is really like out there.

I loved this book but was really kind of scared by it too. I never actually read the other books in the series (although I feel like I may have started them at some point-big surprise) and now I feel like I want to go back and read this one then read the others in the series.

i probably should have read this when i was younger to appreciate it more. with that said, i had to keep reminding myself that i was reading a ya novel as the charactes weren't fleshed out enough and the ending was a bit hurried. ...more

This book was required reading when I was in school. I do remember that I liked it better than all the other required books to read that I was made to read. I wouldnt mind re-reading it again.
