Prompt: Features Latin American History
I am a huge fan of the Gents as we call them and will pretty much read anything they've written either together or alone. Since this one also fit in with the 52 book challenge, I considered it a huge win.
I would love to thank Douglas Preston for my itchiness and paranoid fear of Leishmaniasis now. That's a new one for me, but I itched for days.

This is a really interesting and compelling read. It's pretty tragic how little we know about the people and cultures of the early Americas. You think your life and civilization will last forever while you're in it -- it's pretty crazy to think how easily almost everything can be lost to time. I also thought the ending chapters about disease were pretty alarmingly prescient, given the events of the last couple years.
