to be honest...I think I don't have comments on this one...since I'm too mad to write them right now...maybe a week from now I'll put them up...in the mean time...won't read Speacials...until tomorrow...want to forget a bit about Tally's UGLY life¬¬ ...more

Let me just say, I love Scott Westerfeld. I loved the Peeps Series and the Uglies Series and can’t wait to see what’s next. He has a unique, creative mind that brings the most amazing stories to life. I can’t say enough how much I love his work. Scott - - - you Rock!
The Pretties begins with Tally and Shay living in New Pretty Town with Peris. Shay appears to be addicted to cosmetic surgery, Peris is bubbly as ever, Pretties is book two in the ‘Uglies’ YA Urban Fantasy Series by Scott Westerfeld.
Let me just say, I love Scott Westerfeld. I loved the Peeps Series and the Uglies Series and can’t wait to see what’s next. He has a unique, creative mind that brings the most amazing stories to life. I can’t say enough how much I love his work. Scott - - - you Rock!
The Pretties begins with Tally and Shay living in New Pretty Town with Peris. Shay appears to be addicted to cosmetic surgery, Peris is bubbly as ever, and Tally is trying to be bubbly but keeps saying bogus things. In Pretty Town, the biggest issue is being invited to the coolest parties and Tally desperately wants to be apart of the Crims. Zane is the head of the Crims and takes a liking to Tally. Zane has been trying to cure himself, and finds through starvation and stimulation his mind is focused and less bubbly. When a smokie crashes a party, Tally and Zane begin a treasure hunt that ends with two pills and a note from herself. The note tells her to take the pills to cure her brain of the lesions making her bubbly. Tally is unsure and doesn’t have time to think it through with Specials on their heels. Zane offers to take the pills with her and they each take one. Tally and Zane grown more aware and teach the Crims how to focus their minds using caffeine and adrenaline. The more aware Shay becomes, the more she remembers Tally’s betrayal of the smoke. Tally and Zane devise a plan to escape Pretty town and find the new smoke. They come across Shay and her friends cutting themselves to become ‘icy’. When Zane collapses, Tally rushes him to a hospital. Tally and Zane manage to remove their tracking cuffs, and a group of Crims escape Pretty Town. When Peris changes his mind, the delay causes Tally to be thrown off course and lose her hover board. She befriends a pre-rusty tribe and the holy man, Andrew Simpson Smith, who helps her escape in a hover car. Tally finds the new smokies and Zane’s health has deteriorated to the point of shutting down. She refuses to leave his side when a tracking device is found and David is hurt by her choice. Tally and Zane are taken by the Specials where Shay tells her about the cutters role with the specials and how she too will enjoy her new life as a Special.

Great follow-up to "Uglies!" I could almost copy my review of "Uglies" here verbatim. I really liked this as well. Tally's inner strength combined with her questioning of herself continues as a theme, as she struggles to deal with the situations she finds herself in. And the questions about use of technology as well as what rights societies should have over individuals continue as well. A real cliffhanger in this one: you shouldn't finish it before you have your hands on a copy of the next one, ...more
