I was enchanted with the opening chapter, and even more enchanted with how the closing chapter mirrored the beginning. Everything in-between was enchanting or horrifying, with the emphasis on tragedy and horror as events unfolded. And again there was the mirroring in the present of things that happened to other people in the past. I've been told that this was such a great book, so I was a bit afraid that I would not feel the same.
But this is a really great novel! I loved reading it, and didn't want it to end...
The language is beautiful, and I wish I sould spanish, because it must be s joy to read it in the written language!
The novel has it all, love, mystery, humor, wonderful characters and more than one story within the book! I know I'll read this bok again someday! ...more

Wow...the reviews did not exagerate...this is a book all book lovers should read. This story had romance, heartbreak, mystery, intrigue, crimes and of course, the love of literature. The characters were so well written and the story unfolded at just the right pace...I was just hooked up until the last few pages. I warn you, this book is very hard to put down once you start reading, so clear your schedule.

This book was a very enjoyable read. It had everything you could want in a novel. It was fascinating to see the threads between the characters drawn together as the story progressed. Wonderful twists and surprises, good writing and interesting characters makes this a definate recommendation from me.

OK, I admit to really enjoying this book. It was both tragic and delightful and intertwined two separate lives in such a way as to be almost magical. If I ever re-read a book, this one will be under consideration.
