I have wanted to read "Beloved" for a long time because I've had it picked out as a "Best of the 20th Century" book, but, I've also been afraid to read it because of the tough subject matter. I'm so glad, now, that I've read it.
Toni Morrison is such an excellent writer. I felt that I was "living in this book" during the time that I was reading it. The characters were very real to me.

Hard to review this book because there were things I loved about it and things I hated. So it ends up with 3 stars but it's not mediocre. I'm glad I read it; maybe I will read it again another time and appreciate it more.

About ghosts, black slavery, long lasting affection, loss of child...too many subtexts. and difficult ones at that. wasn't an easy read at all.
