UPDATE: I tried this again, hoping to take a fresh perspective. I bought a new copy of the book in Nora Roberts' book store in Boonesboro, MD, so it has good juju, right?! So, I finished. I'm glad I stuck in there to the end...Eve Dallas grew on me as a character after page 100. But, to be honest, I like Roarke better. I will stick around with these as a replacement for the Stephanie Plum series (not for comedic relief, but for quick-ish brain-free reading). Since I'm way behind on the series, I

I have been meaning to start this series for a while now. I have read a few of Nora Roberts books in the past and had liked them, so chances were good that I was going to enjoy her writing under the name J.D Robb. And I was correct.
I mean whats not to like, we have a psychological thriller set in the future, yes there is "romantic" moments, well to be honest there was sex and the build up to potential romantic relationship. It's the year 2023, guns have been banned and are illegal, prostitution ...more

I really liked this! It is totally deserving of all the hype. Eve is fabulous, she's no shrinking violet and I can definitely see what attracted Roarke to her. Roarke. Oh Roarke. He is definitely deserving of the hype! Roarke is yummy! Mysterious. Intelligent. Rich. Gorgeous. And I can't wait to read more of him! He is a great hero! I like he futuristic elements a lot. They're well thought out and Robb doesn't beat you over the head with them. They flow naturally. The suspense plot was good. It

I did not like the narrator for the audiobook, which is unfortunate because the only way I can imagine reading this series is in audio format. It works well for driving because the book is very light reading, mostly plot driven and there's no beautiful writing to be savored.
I know that fans of this series think that Roarke, the male love interest is the coolest, dreamiest, most wonderful charever e-vah. But I found him uncomfortably controlling, kind of whiny, and, other than being really rich, ...more

Eve Dallas is a cop, sometime in the future, and she is assigned to a series of murders involving licensed prostitutes. Eve becomes involved with one of the prime suspects, Roarke. I liked the futuristic aspects and the mystery parts. There was a bit too much romance for a mystery novle for my taste though I do think I'll continue the series.

The futuristic aspect of this mystery-thriller was interesting. There is a lot of graphic violence which made the audio format hard to listen to. Also I didn't care for the narrator. It's the 1st in a series and I quite liked the main character. I may or may not read more in the series.

Not feeling the futuristic edge to this, so it is currently on the back-burner. But I've already committed to 50 pages, so I WILL finish it...soon...I hope!
