Last year, one of the best things that ever happened to me reading-wise was when I read all of Rainbow Rowell’s books. I truly, immensely loved Attachments (because, Lincoln!) and then I read Fangirl during the later part of the year, and even though I didn’t like it as much as I liked Attachments, I was impressed by Rainbow Rowell’s writing style. Last December, I capped 2013 by reading Eleanor & Park with some friends at the book club. Yes, I am no ...more

3.6 overall rating. I've led quite a sheltered life and so it made me uncomfortable to read about the situations (as well as the language) described in the book. It was heartbreaking. But the author has a style of writing that made me want to keep reading and I thought the voices were very real.

I read this book all in one day, one snowy Sunday. This book took me straight back to being a teenager -- all of the insecurities about boys and my body and boysandmybody, the hell of gym class, the inability to help friends whose homes made gym class look like heaven, and all of the incredible magic and heartbreak of first love. I love that this book was set in the late 80's. It was a bit like going down memory lane with the references to The Smiths, Dead Milkmen, and Hill Street Blues.
I will have to admit that some of Eleanor's decisions seemed a little strange to me... but then again, my life was more like Park's growing up and he was ...more

Eleanor is the new kids in school who dresses strangely. Park is the half Korean kid who is into music and comics and who doesn't quite fit in. Park reluctantly lets Eleanor share his seat on the bus and the two slowly become boyfriend and girlfriend. Eleanor has a lot of family issues and of the two main characters I found her to be the more interesting one. Not an earthshaking story but I did find myself slowly being sucked in and in the end i didn't want the book to end. I enjoyed Rowell's wr
