What Members Thought

This was quite a book. It took me FOREVER to read it. I am still not clear in my mind exactly how I feel about it. I can say the last half of the book was much better than the first half. The first half would get a 2 out of 5 and the last half would get a 4. I thought the author was very thorough in his story telling. So much so, I think the novel dragged. Especially in the beginning. I don’t understand why he went in so much detail about the grandparents of the main character. Yes, their histor

I finished Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides, about a week ago. I mentioned before that I was reading it and how much I was enjoying it. It’s taken me about a week and still all I can seem to say is ……Wow! Really, this is a book you just need to read. There is so much to the book, so many facets, so many themes, that I am having a difficult time putting my thoughts on the book into words.

We read this for book club a few years back and I liked it but I didn't love it. I have to admit I was much more interested in the hermaphrodite part of the story and grew weary of all of the family history although I can appreciate that it was well written. I think I've rotted my brain reading too many fluff books and now I'm impatient with books that require more attention-it's terrible!

This was a very odd book. I managed to finish it but I did put it down for a week or so several times to read something else. The whole gender identity thing was kinda interesting but it's not a book I'd reread or recommend to a friend. (Unless maybe they were cross-gendered)

Three stars because I read it some years ago, and can't remember much about it. I do remember not liking some of it, so can't rate it higher. Might have break my own rule and re-read it, since most people seem to love it.

I think in this time of my sickiness, I need to find something a little less serious. I'll try again another time.
