This is a book that you like as it is written very well, and it is fascinating but you also hate it because the events are horrifying. I almost threw my copy, I wanted to trow it at the wall out of anger. Not because Margaret Atwood wrote a bad novel but because she wrote a believable novel, and that's scary. As a woman the idea of living this is terrifying and sickening. I applaud Ms. Atwood for being able to make me feel and picture this world so clearly. This is my second novel by this author

While I can appreciate Margaret Atwood's skill and writing style, I found this book unpleasant to read. I really didn't enjoy being in the world she created. I know Atwood didn't intend to create a "pleasant" world, and she definitely succeeded. And while I appreciate her writing style, I also didn't enjoy it. I've read this book and watched the movie several times. I think it's amazing and haunting. Something that has stayed with me long after I closed the cover or watched the credits roll. It walks through my thoughts at odd times.

The story of a future where women have lost their rights and their only role is to have children. The story if told by Offred who is a handmaid, a woman assigned to a commander whose sole purpose is to get pregnant and if she does so she gives the baby to the commanders wife. The book was well written but it is also majorly depressing.

Feminist vision of apocalypse. I didn't love it or hate it. It wasn't exactly a page turner but the mood of the book and the feelings I got from it will remain with me for quite a while.
