What Members Thought
I have long been fascinated by this and this is my third reading of it. Like so many people, I find it a flawed work of genius. I am intrigued by the powerful writing, the evocative description, the delight in nature, the merciless depiction of the tormented, relentless Heathcliff and Catherine, and like so many I love that famous last sentence about the 'quiet earth'.

I struggle to think of two characters I have had less sympathy with in a book than Cathy and Heathcliff. Funnily enough I do like the Kate Bush song.
A gripping exploration of obsession, revenge, and the destructive power of love. Its deeply flawed characters make it unforgettable. Heathcliff, driven by passion and vengeance, is both tragic and terrifying, while Catherine’s reckless nature seals their doomed fate. Their love is not romantic but raw, consuming, and self-destructive. Brontë’s moody, atmospheric prose and the wild Yorkshire moors intensify the novel’s emotional depth.
