A sweet fairy tale, with just enough darkness that it isn't saccharine. A bit of romance, a bit of sarcasm, a bit of royal intrigue, and a changeling child who loses his heart to a fallen star. What could be more delightful?
Definitely in the same ballpark with The Princess Brideand The Last Unicorn.

I absolutely loved this book; it has been added to my favourites and will definitely be a book I will come back to again and again to revisit. Love and romance entwined with battles, mystical creatures and evil villains such as wizards and murderous princes. Ahhh such excitement :0)

Young Tristran Thorn is on a quest to bring back a fallen star from the land of faery, to win the heart of his love Victoria Forester who does not seem to share his feelings.
The land of Faery is on the other side of

I enjoyed this book, but it didn't grab me the way that Anansi Boys did. The style was very similar to something like Grimm's fairy tales. While I've been really enjoying fairy tale retellings, somehow the characters in this story never grabbed me. The ending also felt rushed and somehow disappointing. Still, I'm interested in seeing the movie and glad that I read the book.

Also, I think I might have enjoyed this more if I'd had the illustrated version. The kindle version that I read didn't have

Cute little tale, with moments of humour and sadness, along with a proper faerie tale ending. Feels like a children's book but isn't. Pity about the unicorn. ...more

I still stand as far as the book is totally different than the movie, but, when does that not happen? I have noticed a lot of extra characters and different ways of how things were done in the book. I wasnt liking the book at first. It took me a little while to start liking it ok. I would recommend this book to anyone who liked the movie and who likes the fantasy books. I preferred the ending in the movie to the one in the book though. I believe all in all, I preferred the movie. The movie was a ...more

After many false starts I finally finished this book. I got the illustrated version from the library and it definitely added to the story. I didn't love the book and if I hadn't watched the movie I probably never would have finished it. Once I saw the movie (which I actually liked more than the book) I was a little more compelled to read the book. The movie is definitely worth watching. ...more

Thought the ending was terribly anti-climactic, particularly compared with the movie. Liked the story well enough but thought the movie wrapped up the story better than the book. If you've seen the movie, you'll get the theme of the story, told a bit more harshly.

I read Graveyard Book by Gaiman first and enjoyed it much more. But this was a quick nice read.

i liked this book. i didn't love it. i actually (gasp!) liked the movie better. but i think the movie was more geared to adults, whereas this is very much a young adult book. either way it was a lot of fun, and gaiman has a master command of the english language that makes all his books so enjoyable. ...more

I had higher hopes for it, I must say, probably because I loved Neverwhere so much, and because I stupidly watched the movie first. Nevertheless, it was still very intriguing and I enjoyed reading it.

I got very frustrated with the beginning of the story, as it seemed to spend too much time on Tristran's origin. It got much better after that and then things came together even more in the end. ...more
