I read this so long ago that I seem to have forgotten most of it! It's darkly comic, totally absurd, and desperately poignant, especially considering all the bloody wars we've had since WWII. I was near tears and laughter simultaneously.

I would have awarded four stars had the book been about a hundred pages shorter. I got a bit weary of Milo's initially amusing enterprises, the boredom of Nately's whore, and other shenanigans that wore a little thin after the fifth or sixth episode.
