I grew up in a farm community and while I didn't live on a farm, most of those that I grew up with raised livestock that was then slaughtered for food. I've always wondered how they stood it.

Start with Huck Finn, add a bit of Little House on the Prairie, a generous slug of Winnie the Pooh, and a touch of the Parable of the Prodigal Son, and you've got it. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but it's a lovely, lovely book.

Had to read this for school. Fell asleep over and over. So did my mother who was supposed to help me get through it. Should've been 100 pages.
