it made me cringe from the beginning to the end. after the twist in the plot, it still was disappointing. if the point is to write hated characters, then may be it’s a success. still, doesn’t mean it was worth it. the story wasn’t even compelling enough.

This is not my first acquaintance with Rebecca, but a recent viewing of the fabulous movies - the one with Olivier - sent me back to this elegantly written, mysterious, and ultimately tragic novel. I remember liking the book but did not recall all of the tension, the insecurities and the morbid imagination of the second Mrs. de Winter, nor the enchanting (or is that "bewitched"?) and beautiful place that Manderly was. ...more
