It's been a long time since I read this novel. I read it for a book group that several English teachers at my school put together. Another teacher and I, both of us retired, joined them for the book club. It's been wonderful, includes a history teacher and a science teacher who is also a strong feminist. She spent a year reading only women writers.

Perhaps 3.5 stars, but I rounded down because (for me) 4 stars indicates I would definitely read more by this author. This was read for a book club and is not my usual thing, so chances are good that I probably won't unless there is a sequel. Anyway, 3 stars is still a good book. It kept my attention, wondering where the author was going to take these troubled characters. So well done. Woven with intricate detail but with a concise quickly moving plot.
