I love a good family saga, and that's exactly what this is.
Tyler gives us something a little different though, as we move backward through the generations.
First we have the elderly Red and Abby, with their adult children and grandchildren. Their perfect house, their perfect family. Almost. But not everything is as it seems.
Then we have young Red and Abby, before they are a couple. And Abby learns that Red's family is not as perfect as she thought.

This is book club material for sure. I haven't read anything so sad, but so compelling in a long time. The Whitshank family seems to have nothing underneath their happy surface but misunderstandings and resentments and jealousies---I'm still not sure if the forgiveness I think was written into the plot actually happened or was just an earnest wish on my part.
