This book just clicked for me. I listened in audio format and the narrator made the Spanglish slang sing. I liked the stream of consciousness and the character's weirdly funny, pathetic obsession with losing his virginity. Oscar did indeed live a wondrous life. This may not be a book for everybody, but it worked for me.

Really entertaining and informative read. I was particularly surprised by the choice of narrator who really wasn't one of the main characters. Overall, a great book. Easy to see why it won the pulitzer.

I enjoyed this book despite the fact that the title is a little deceiving. The book is about Oscar and his brief life but there is a lot of dominican background and also a lot about his family's past. Also if your spanglish is not that good then you may have a little trouble @ some parts. All in all it was good though and I especially liked all the dorky references.
