Wowzers!!! What did I get myself into? Reading this book was quite a new experience for me. I was apprehensive and skeptical as hell to read this. I thought about it long and hard (no pun intended) before I started this. Luckily I had my Goodreads friends (Rosa and Kim) to hold my hand when reading this. This book was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I don’t even know where to start… how I can explain to you just how incredible, how complex, how dark and how beautiful this book is.
After finishing this book just five minutes ago, I feel like I want to cry. I want to laugh. I want to take over people’s lives just to tell them how freakin’ amazing this book was and how it had such a huge impact on me whilst I was reading it.

From other reviews, I started reading this book knowing that it is not a typical romance novel. This book is really about the characters and their relationships with Nora, an erotica writer. Zach is her editor who recently separated from his wife. Wesley is her 19 year old "intern" who lives with her and is also a virgin. Soren is her former Dom who owned her for 13ish years. This is one of those books where, when I finished it, I felt like I wasn't quite ready to reenter the real world.

I don't even feel like I have the right words to describe how I feel about this book.

Nora Sutherlin is a famous erotica writer but she wants to move to a more respected publisher with her new book "The Consolation Prize." In order to do this she begins working with editor Zachary Easton. He doesn't want anything to do with a smut writer but becomes impressed with Nora's writing and w This is one of those books where, when I finished it, I felt like I wasn't quite ready to reenter the real world.

Nora Sutherlin is a famous erotica writer but she wants to move to a more respected publisher with her new book "The Consolation Prize." In order to do this she begins working with editor Zachary Easton. He doesn't want anything to do with a smut writer but becomes impressed with Nora's writing and work ethic.

Nora also has to deal with her live-in assistant, 19 year old Wesley, as well as the memory (and occasional reality) of her ex-lover, Soren.

This story is the journey of Nora writing her story while dealing with her relationships with Wesley, Zach, and Soren.

O Henry's story, The Gift of the Magi is brought up several times during the novel and it's a very apt analogy. (Nora feels it is a horror story while Wesley thinks it is a romance) Nora tells Wesley that it is their story but I think it works for all of them. They are all so interconnected that it becomes inevitable that some or all of them will end up hurt by the end.

Whoever said it first was right, this is not a romance novel. There is love, certainly, but not romance. Despite that, I found this to be one of the most emotional books I have read in a long time. I ached for all of the characters and the pain that they all felt. Even though I knew that none of them would have a HEA at the end of the book I desperately wanted them all to be happy - whatever that might mean for them.

Very well written book. It's a good book to start with if you're new to erotica and bdsm. Not very graphic, more cerebral. I really like the characters and dialogue, and Nora had a great sense of humor at times. It was emotional too and I really felt for these characters, especially Wes and Zach. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. ...more

It's pretty safe to say The Siren by Tiffany Reisz shook my comfort zone and flipped it upside down to the point where it all dumped out. I don't think I'll ever again be able to say "I can't read that because the subject matter makes me uncomfortable". I just read and loved a book that threw all my "comforts" from sex to religion out the window.

I can say the one thing that made me love The Siren so much was pretty much the only thing that mattered. The characters. I can say the one thing that made me love The Siren so much was pretty much the only thing that mattered. The characters. Show me, don't tell me what's happening in these people's heads. I want to feel as though I know what they are going through so much, that I could actually BE them (not that I'd want to be in this situation). Tiffany Reisz had this concept down to a "T". When an author writes characters that have done, and continue to do horrible things to one another, and I STILL loved everyone of them (yes, even Soren) something was done right and I need to stick with her.

All four of these characters left their mark on me in their own way. To state the obvious, if I could write a perfect "beta" male it would be Wes. He was honest, loving and it took everything he had to hold onto the values that defined who he was. I don't think I've ever read a more dramatized and dominant character than Soren. What kind of mysterious and creepy freak was he? I can't wait to know more about him. Zach, I don't think I've ever loved and wanted to smack a hero more. He was so oblivious when it came to how he was treating his wife. When we finally learn how and why his marriage fell apart, I was so pissed at him. How could a smart guy be so frickin dumb??? And Nora... I was so impressed with how psychotic, impulsive, reckless yet intelligent and self aware she was. She was messed up, but she knew it and she didn't deny her devil side all the while trying so hard to do the right thing for those she cared about. There was only one occasion when Nora's actions really made me hate her. But in the end I think she did the right thing.

So, the ending... A huge sort of controversy I've read in other reviews. The consolation that we will have more of all the characters in subsequent books really took the sting out of the end, but honestly I think it ended superbly. In my opinion, everyone ended up exactly where they were meant to be. All though yes, one beloved character was left broken hearted, it would have been worse had the situation continued as it was. The ending really put Soren's character into perspective for me. He honestly gave me the creeps up until the point when I realized that everything he had told Nora about Wes and Zach was exactly correct. His ability to read people at first to me seemed was only his jealousy and attempt to control all aspects of Nora's life. Later I realized it was actually him trying to protect Nora and those she loved from harm. ...more
