Wow, I'm in absolute tears and depression right now. This was such a hard book to read. I cried through most of it. I need to get my emotions together to write my review. But after reading the sneak peek for the sequel which is in Clay's POV, I am more than positive that there is light at the end of the tunnel, somewhere. But this is NOT an HEA, so if you're looking for that in this book, don't look further. I need the sequel now!!! My heart hurts so bad for these characters.

Once more, I have struggled with this genre. It always manage to deceive me time and again and how could it not when the blurb looks very interesting and plainly resonates with your present life. But after encountering tons, I realized this is not how teens act. At all. I don't remember being superficially bitchy and dramatic over trivial stuffs, even if it's about boys. Pleeeaaase.

This was an extremely emotional book for me. It hit close to home in more than a few ways and it tugged on my heart strings. Clayton Reed is a teenage boy who has more than his fair share of problems. He is struggling to live with his being Bipolar and having a personality disorder on top of that. (Now, in my life, I use to take care of a man who had these disorders. I must say that I was extremely impressed that the author was very accurate in the behaviours that are brought on by these difficu This was an extremely emotional book for me. It hit close to home in more than a few ways and it tugged on my heart strings. Clayton Reed is a teenage boy who has more than his fair share of problems. He is struggling to live with his being Bipolar and having a personality disorder on top of that. (Now, in my life, I use to take care of a man who had these disorders. I must say that I was extremely impressed that the author was very accurate in the behaviours that are brought on by these difficult disorders.)Then there is Maggie, who is your average teen with "normal" everyday situations, great friends,and a family who offers love and support whenever she needs it. These two literally "collide" into one another one day, and this starts a friendship that develops into an all consuming relationship. All is not not well though when Maggie starts to notice eratic behaviours and moods swings happening with Clay. He also snaps at her extremely easily one minute and then he is immediatley apologizing and remorseful in the next. She just can't keep up with all of his hot and cold vibes and his ever changing moods. When Clay finally sheds light on what his problems are Maggie feels a great need to give him all her love and support; no matter the cost to herself. She firmly believes that her love will make him better, and then they can live a happy life. A downward spiral begins as Clay just wants to be normal and he stops taking his meds and believes that love will conquer his mental illness, because in his eyes all he needs to be happy is Maggie.
This is a heartbreaking tale of two people who have so much desire to make life better on love alone, only to discover that the reality of the situation is so much darker and bigger than the both of them. Mental illness is not something that can be swept under the rug, and watching these two teens battle these challenging disorders is so very sad. Will they get their happy ever after, or will the ever growing problems of these two teens be bigger than the both of them can handle?
This story brought out so many feelings for me and I wasn't able to put the book down. I look forward to the continuing saga of Clay and Maggie. ...more

A beautiful, heartbreaking love story! Maggie and Clay's story is raw and intense, love is never easy - but knowing from personal experience, when mental illness is involved it can be tragically difficult. Mental illness is not something people like to talk about, they want to sweep it under the rug, but it is real and many people suffer from its ugliness. As a mental health professional I attempted to keep in mind while reading this book that the kids involved were just absolutely lost and in over their heads. With that being said it was a really good book, very well written, and very true to the symptoms & behaviors that you would see with someone struggling with the illnesses that Clay was dealing with.

With that being said it was a really good book, very well written, and very true to the symptoms & behaviors that you would see with someone struggling with the illnesses that Clay was dealing with.

I would just hope that if something like this were going on in the real world that 17 or not a girlfriend or boyfriend in that position would speak to an adult before letting it go so far. The both of them were so co-dependent it was scary! It was also scary how easily Maggie could put her wants or her desires or Clay's wants in front of his needs. Seeing someone cut themselves to the point where you think that they may need stitches would elliit an entirely different reaction from me if it were regarding someone that I loved. I would like to think that - that would be especially so if I had no training in the field. I felt like it took her entirely too long to reach out and ask for help. I also found the Aunt and Girlfriend to be really irresponsible. Lisa only made one reference to Maggie that if things were going on to let her and Ruby know. I just don't understand how an adult could put that kind of responsiblility on a child. If nothing else, whether Clay's parents had "control" over him or not Lisa & Ruby with Maggie's encouragement should have at the least made it a stipulation that in order for Clay to stay in their house that he had to remain on his medications and see a therapist. If he couldn't agree to that, then he could go home and deal with his parents. If he was at a point that he could not reasonably see how that would be a better option than going back to his parents then he obviously did need more help than what any of them could give him. I just felt that all in all everyone was really lackluster with their actions regarding Clay's mental health. Maggie being an emotional wreck and depressed because she could not see him was extremely selfish and made me question her mental health when she so easily could recognize that her parents and friends cared for her well being and loved her. I wouldn't be so quick to diagnose her with anything as she is a teen, but that is frightening to think that she actually chose the treatment that she received, the false responsibility she put on herself, and that she gave up a life that may have been boring but safe for one where she was miserable, moody, hurting, and worried all the time. Her mother was right when she told her that was not love but obsession.

I am definitely a fan of person centered therapies and the idea that a client should be in the drivers seat when it comes to their treatment. When someone is showing you, however, that they cannot make good decisions for themselves or that they cannot stop participating in their destructive behavior I think you have to put that persons safety first. It seemed like no one in this book was doing that for Clay. Everyone either didn't want to step on someone else's toes or wanted to deal with it a certain way based on their own selfish wants.

I'm not sure if I will read the sequel this was a draining book. But I am a sucker ultimately for a happy ending so I probably will read it in hopes that there is a happy ending for Maggie & Clay. ...more

Wow what a powerful book, I was completely blown away.

Maggie is a seventeen year old self described average girl, gets good grades, follows all the rules, comes from a functional happy family and yet she is bored with her life. When she literally collides into Clayton the new student in school her average world is turned upside-down.

"I had a million and one other things going on in my life but the only thing I could think about was him. Clay fucking Reed."

Poor broken Clayton. My heart ached for him, all he wants is to be normal. Moving into town after leaving Florida in hopes to start over he is broody and closed off to everyone around him. Instantly drawn to Clay, Maggie makes it her mission to become friends with him. As they slowly get to know each other Clay begins to open up to her about his past and his issues with mental illness. Their relationship starts off so good and then as Clay slowly starts to slip their relationship starts to do the same. Cycling from sweet and loving to destructive and scary Maggie finds herself struggling to maintain her relationship with Clayton as well as with her friends and family. She wants so badly to save Clay, fix him and naively thinks that her love for him can do just that.

I loved how realistic the story was. I loved the build up of Maggie and Clays relationship. I loved the passion and devotion they showed for each other. I just plain loved this story. It was written with such respect for mental illness and how it changes lives. It didn't hold back or make light of such a serious topic. I could sympathize with Maggie and understand the decisions she made even if they weren't the best for her or Clay. There were some grammar errors but nothing that would stop me from reading. The lack of a HEA was very fitting and didn't detract from the story but made it more believable. Love isn't always the fix to everything, sometimes you need more than love and this story is a great example of that. I highly recommend this book and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book to see how Clay and Maggie's story plays out.

I'm all over the place with this review so I apologise if it doesn't make sense. I'm literally writing stuff down as it comes into my head, which is pretty much what I usually do anyway!

I'm having a hard time gathering my thoughts on this book! Maybe it's because it's a bit too close to home for me & maybe it's because it was so intense. I could relate to a few things & that made for a tough read. It was one hell of a roller coaster ride & it took me a while to get through but it wasn't quite th ...more

This was a good book. I really like this author; she makes you really feel all the emotions she writes about. I honestly think this book deserves more stars, but because it hit so close to home from a past relationship, I had a hard time reading it. I definitely recommend this book. It will stir a wide range of deep emotions, which is a mark of a great author. I can't wait for the next book to come out! ...more

This author has done an exceptional job of dealing with an incredibly difficult but extremely relevant subject matter. I am so glad that I read this book and I am really pulling for Clay and Mags in book two. Everyone is worthy of unconditional love and it was beautiful to read about such a love!
