I’m going with 4.5 and was talking myself into the fifth star through most of the book and it almost slipped away towards the end. The fifth star is one of the weaker ones for me and this review actually started with me explaining why it didn’t get it but I took so long on posting the review that I just went ahead and threw it up there. There were a couple of scenes that made me go, HUH but I didn’t care because I was digging the world that was built and loved the characters.

Pia is a mystery. No I’m going with 4.5 and was talking myself into the fifth star through most of the book and it almost slipped away towards the end. There were a couple of scenes that made me go, HUH but I didn’t care because I was digging the world that was built and loved the characters.

Pia is a mystery. Not just to everyone around her but to herself. All she knows is that her mother has spent most of her life teaching her how to run and hide in the human world. Pia is a half breed. Half human half Wry. Wry’s can shapeshift into different types of creatures. Pia’s mom has sheltered her from her Wry side all her life and what she is as far as shifting is a mystery to her. She gets blackmailed into stealing from a mean son of a bitch but her loser boyfriend and her life of running continues but the hiding part is becoming near impossible. Her world falls apart as she tries to evade Dragos the person she stole from and eventually connects with.

Damn this book was good. I love different stories and dragons were a new one for me. The characters stayed true to themselves and I felt their reactions to certain situations within the relationship were very fluid. Some of the action scenes had holes in it and I was willing to overlook them until they piled up. Pia has a snarky attitude but just the right kind. I have been reading UF after UF where I am getting beat up with comedy. Pia’s jabs always seem to have just the right amount of punch to them and always at the right time. The more serious scenes got played out and weren’t interrupted with some inner dialogue that had nothing to do with the story. Dragos was a badass dragon and didn’t become all sweet just because he meets and crushes on Pia. He stays true to his character which is possessive and takes shit from nobody type of guy. He attempts to change for Pia but I liked how it did not come easy. There is a string of characters that were awesome. Dragos’s top sentinels were not comfortable with Pia right away but Pia has a way of winning people over with her don’t take shit attitude. I also liked that it wasn’t one of those, “I’m invincible type of characters.” There were times when she had to use her cunning and charm to talk down Dragos from a fit instead of acting like she was badder than one of the most powerful entities in the world.

I’ll be moving on with the series because I love all the characters and I hope to get some of the back stories and also want to see how Tricks makes out in her new role.

Reread on the September 28 2013,Initally read on February 18 2012.

OK , finally finished reading this and while it wasn't as intoxicating as when I initially read it. I must say this was still great , I love Pia and Dragos . They are the best couple in this entire series and I must say I would prefer reading about them other than the other couples. IMO the other books aren't has good has the this one. This one is very special to me and I must say it has given be goosebumps. They had decent issue ...more
