Where do I start? Instead of giving you the background of the novel I am going to give you my reaction only.

I stumbled upon a group on Goodreads labeled Consequences Support Group and it immediately sparked my interest. I purchased the book with barely skimming the description. I figured if it already has a support group it must be worth reading. I went into this book blind and I’m glad I did because I might have been a little scared.

Aleatha Romig is a literary genius. I have experienced happiness, love, lust, fear, and sadness from books, never can I say that I experienced them all at once.

I felt like I was experiencing moments bipolar/Stockholm Syndrome/multiple personality from page to page. One minute I would be in fear, in tears, afraid to turn the page, then the next I was saying ‘oh well it can’t be THAT bad’. Yes this book is a total and utter mindf*ck. Romig blew my mind away. I cannot imagine how she created Claire and Tony. Speaking of Tony….

Follow my rules: number one, do as you are told, do not divulge personal information, actions have consequences, appearances are of vital importance, and public failure is not an option.

He is cold. He is kind. He hurts. He heals. He is calculating. He is thoughtful. He is beautiful. He is ruthless. He is a fantasy. He is a nightmare. I do not think I ever understood the definition of the word paradox until Tony found his way into my heart and my fears. He is by favorite the most fascinating character I have ever had a pleasure of reading about. The lines between love and hate were so blurred it was no wonder Claire had to find a way to adapt.

No truer quote could ever begin to describe Claire and the her journey. I have read other opinions of her ‘putting’ up with Tony’s treatment but she is one of the smartest heroines in a book today. There were moments when her pain was so real I found myself living those emotions. My heart ached for her in ways I’m not sure I can describe. All of her actions made sense. To have imagined her handling Tony in any other way would have been such a disservice to this book.

Consequences is a book that stayed with me for days. I finished it around 4 in the morning. Fell asleep for 2 hours and awoke because I couldn’t get Tony or Claire out of my head. I immediately started book 2 ‘Truth’. I also preached about this series to anyone willing to listen to me. I am a very emotional reader but I have never experienced a more intense reaction to a book as much as I have about Consequences.

Infinite* There is no rating that could properly convey my absolute love of this book. It is a must read!

Aleatha Romig has mind-fucked me senseless. I can't say I totally enjoyed the experience, but what I will say is this, 'She's also a goddamn genius'!

Let me reiterate:

I have never in my life read a book where I loved it and literally fucking hated it at the same time. To have a book that hooks you in, dragging you deep, delivering every single myriad of emotion to almost the point of pain, to then take your hand and lull you into a false sense of security is absolutely inconceivable, but she did Aleatha Romig has mind-fucked me senseless. I can't say I totally enjoyed the experience, but what I will say is this, 'She's also a goddamn genius'!

Let me reiterate:

I have never in my life read a book where I loved it and literally fucking hated it at the same time. To have a book that hooks you in, dragging you deep, delivering every single myriad of emotion to almost the point of pain, to then take your hand and lull you into a false sense of security is absolutely inconceivable, but she did it! I felt myself starting to relax. I questioned motives and why the sudden change of events but I desperately wanted to believe in redemption and at one point I thought it ‘almost’ deserved.

But then… I had the rug whipped out from beneath me, and I wanted to run for the hills. Seriously… this book scared the living shit out of me! It was completely unpredictable. The facets of Anthony’s character were astounding; with an untamed monster lurking beneath those dark depths you didn’t know what the hell he was going to do next. I felt like I was reading on ‘eggshells.’

In terms of the movie world, it reminded me of Sleeping with the Enemy… but on crack! I cannot emphasise enough how amazing this book would be on the big screen. It’s the ultimate in psychological thrillers that has the capability to shock. Don’t compare this to any dominant alpha-male erotica romance based story. It isn’t anything like that. It’s a psychological thriller with a protagonist that is a psychotic sociopath on a vengeance mission.

Anthony Rawlings is the entrepreneur poster boy, the ultimate businessman, his wealth and success unprecedented. And yet appearances can be deceiving... he is also controlling, possessive and unrelenting and there were times when I hated him. HATED HIM! With Anthony I felt like that deer in headlights. I wanted that near miss, closed my eyes in the hope that everything got better, to then be hit like a freight train in the last 20%. I wanted to be strong for Claire, but actually... I was Claire. Romig turned a 3rd person narrative into a first person perspective making it one of the cleverest books to ever grace my kindle.

I was mind-raped, literally and figuratively. This book gave me a true insight of victimisation. I was with Claire the whole way, took this journey with her and at times wanted to question her actions and shake the ever-loving shit out of her, but at the same time, I understood why she took them. Anthony has got to be the most manipulative book character to ever hit my reader list. He’s manipulating me now; the rat-bastard is still doing it because I can’t get him or this book out of my head! My mind is awed at how good this story was, but it’s also fractured, the residue is not dissipating, therefore giving me a book hangover from hell. So I HAVE to dive into ‘Truth,’ the 2nd instalment because I NEED to be with Claire right now, I need to see this through with HER!

This is no love story. The violent and sexual scenes are not graphic but they entice enough to identify exactly what is happening, and it made me want to scream! Revulsion knocked on my door countless times, and yet I just had to know, I couldn’t stop reading, but I did it for Claire and I’ll do it again! So far ‘Truth’ is amazing, and I know it’s going to be another HIT for me - Another book that will sit next to this one, on the 5-STAR SHELF.

My advice: Be brave and delve deep, but wear your ‘Big Girl’ pants, because you are going need them.

This book is one amazing ride. The writing is spectacular and you will find yourself vasilating between all of your emotions. One minute I am sure how I feel and the next I am way over on the other side of what I thought and believed before. Once I thought I was sure about something, the author was perfect at stopping me in my tracks and making me doubt myself...much like the female lead of this story. When I first finished this book, I had a wide range of emotions… terror, sadness, happiness, lust and then sadness again. My emotions were literally all over the place. How I felt about Anthony depended on what page I was reading. How could I hate this man, be attracted to him and love him all in the same book? I was on an emotional roller coaster, but one that wanted to go back on once the ride was over!!!

4.5 WTF stars! What the heck did I just read? Even knowing what it was about it still did not go how I thought it would, man I have a smile on my face from the turn it took, I truly love when I don't see something coming. Insane! Now should I jump right into this crazy mess and go for book 2 or take a nice break into a SANE read?
