This was an interesting story. I think I spent as much time reading articles about Stockholm syndrome and Narsisistic personality disorder as I did read the book. I was/ am obsessed with trying to bring some clarity to tangled mess of Tony and Claire's psyches. I had a hard time connecting with Claire. I think this was partially because of the two very different people she seemed to be - a very weak naive girl, and a extremely self possessed, self contained, in control woman. I was/ am obsessed with trying to bring some clarity to tangled mess of Tony and Claire's psyches. I had a hard time connecting with Claire. I think this was partially because of the two very different people she seemed to be - a very weak naive girl, and a extremely self possessed, self contained, in control woman. I think it was also the fact that the author chose not to be graphic during a lot of her "punishments". We got so much of Claire's inner dialogue on every topic, that the lack of it during those situations, blunted there impression for me, epically since Claire "compartmentalized" so well and we didn't get a whole lot of introspection about it after either.

Unlike some other people's reactions, I didn't feel frustrated with some of her decisions later in the book (view spoiler). I would have been more shocked it she had chosen another path.

I didn't really connect with Tony either, though I thought he was a much more interesting character. By the end of the book I was almost sickly impressed with the way he played the whole "game". (view spoiler). I wish we knew more background about how her turned out to be the way he is - was he born, or was he made? I'd also like some more of the backstory on what started the vendetta. The "big reveal" certainly answered a lot of questions, I feel like there is still a lot we don't know.

I also found it interesting that the author gave us peaks into Tony's inner thoughts. There were none in the beginning, but as the book continued, there were more and more brief snippets of insight. Given the nature of the book, this was an interesting choice, since I think the suspense could been heightened if we didn't know any of his true reactions. I don't think she was trying to illicit "sympathy" for him, but perhaps I am wrong. In fact the only reason I am not convinced that the whole "falling in love" with her part of the story wasn't a big "long con" is because of these brief pieces of information.

Overall a fascinating read. I am certainly compelled to find out how this whole thing is going to play out - and how much of it is true, and how much of it is just "appearance" ...more

This was a very hard book for me to rate. I've seen people classify this as romance, erotica, bdsm, dark. I don't think it was any of these. There was definitely not enough detail in the abuse and sexual relationship. She had bruises, but how did she get them? There was reference to sexual non consent...because he unzipped his pants?? Then the chapter would end and it never went anywhere. This was definitely not along the same lines of CJ Roberts. I believe she is a first time author so ...more

Most people smack a big 5 stars on this book because it is a bloody mindfuck. I'll be the first to acknowledge that the best part of this book was the the last 15%. I didn't see it coming, it blew my mind. However that last bit didn't want a jump from a 1star book to a 5 star book. The ending really only gave it another star, hence the 2 star review.

The reason?

This book is bloody boring. It's a 500 page book and about 400-450 pages are tediously boring. I have alot of books on my TBR 1.5-2 stars

I have alot of books on my TBR, alot of possibly incredible books so I seriously can't give a book 5 stars when I wasted a whole day reading stupid tedious shit. The majority of the book is made up of shopping, travelling, walks in the woods, picnics by the lake, some sex, sitting in his office watching him work, having arguments about communicating etc and it all gets a bit old. Actually it gets more than a little old, it was like watching paint dry it was that boring.

Secondly this book had the opportunity, as many of the kidnap, fall in love with kidnapper stories to explore the physchological effects of such events and provide an indepth analyse of abuse/sociology however it didnt take this opportunity. Yes the ending established that Tony is insane and that Clare is as well, but I just couldn't connect with Clare's situation. I think because the abuse is not detailed, as in the book tends to skip over the rape, the physical abuse etc so I just couldn't empathise with her at all. Especially considering she was given many opportunities to run away, talk about her abuse, be given an out but she never took them. I don't think it was realistic for her to be afraid of Tony to the point she would not seek assistance or run away. She was weak, had no backbone and she let what happen to her happen. The ending would never have been achieved if she had been stronger.

Sorry for all you guys that loved it. I acknowledge the ending was incredible but this book was past the point of saving at that point. For me anyways. ...more

WOW, what an ending! I am definitely moving on to book two, but I feel I need a couple of therapy sessions first as I am emotionally drained and my mind has been screwed with by this book. I think this is the first book that I read and paced at the same time. This is not a light and fluffy read, it is a psychological thriller. This book drew me in so deep, that I didn't know what day it was when I finished reading it because I was too busy being a "fly on the wall" in the world of Claire and Ant ...more

Is it possible to feel sooooo emotionally drained....this has been one CRAZY ride....

I think I have never been so ANGRY & so in LOVE with a character before...but I guess I'm a masochist because I'm diving head first into the 2nd book Knowing that I might have a mental breakdown once I'm done with this series that I have grown to be obsessed with....LOL...Wish me luck......I might have a heart condition after this....

WOW & WTF just happened?!?!
Ok, I have to admit that I thought that it did start out a little slow…and continued that way for quite a while. If anyone else is feeling the same, just keep with it, it will change! I was hoping that maybe she would be able to change him like in so many other books and have a HEA. Hahaha silly me, this book is call Consequences for a reason.
