My Opinion

In my opinion, Reckoning is one of the best books in the Strange Angels series. The first book was the best for me, but this one came pretty close. I have to admit, there were times when I found the series dragging, as some scenes went on forever- it was like fight, go to the Schola, fight, get beat up, have guy issues, fight, repeat. However, while I did have some issues with this book, I found myself pretty much liking it.

My Opinion

In my opinion, Reckoning is one of the best books in the Strange Angels series. The first book was the best for me, but this one came pretty close. I have to admit, there were times when I found the series dragging, as some scenes went on forever- it was like fight, go to the Schola, fight, get beat up, have guy issues, fight, repeat. However, while I did have some issues with this book, I found myself pretty much liking it.

The plot was more fast-paced than the previous books. I could feel that it had direction and the story was finally going somewhere. You see, Graves, the loup garou, has been rescued from Sergej, Dru finally bloomed, Christophe, is well… Christophe. While I found some scenes to be repetitive, the plot was different from the past books in the series. Books 2-4 is kinda one big jumble in my head, and in my opinion, could have been joined into one book.

However, I’m pretty much on a love-hate relationship with the characters and the love triangle. Dru, I love. Well, for most of the time anyway. She’s pretty kickass, and I love the way how she’s tough- but she sometimes cries and have the occasional breakdown. It makes her seem more real as a character, I think. Graves is one of the most awesome best friend there is, and I want one exactly like him, down to the “First one’s free.” ;) He’s just really sweet, and the whole Goth Boy look adds to his charm. (He reminds me of Varen from Nevermore! ;) ) I loved the way his character evolved through the series, from a sorta-homeless boy to one tough loup garou.

Christophe, the other love interest, well… there were some times when I found him charming, but other times, I found him as creepy as heck. So I for one am on Team Graves here. I think the way Lili St. Crow did the romance was… unique. (view spoiler)

The ending of the series didn’t really satisfy me though. I felt like there should have been another book, with the Maharaj and Graves’ predicament. The Sergej angle though was wrapped up nicely- he was killed, so that’s that, I guess. I’m just surprised it took that long- the actual decapitation was pretty anti-climatic with the pretty extensive fight scene before it. And like I said in the spoiler part above- regarding the love triangle- Dru’s choice, while it was… different, it felt like a really huge cliffhanger.

One that would never get answered.

The Rating

Somewhere between 3.5 and 4.5 stars… This book was pretty good, but some things didn’t leave me satisfied with the wrapping up of this series. If you’re new to this series, give the first book a try. It’s very good, chillingly dark and gritty. I can’t say for books two to four, though, but I can say that Reckoning is almost as good as the first one. It’s your standard YA Paranormal Romance, though this series is more of the darker paranormal side with tons of action and less of the romance.

I'm going to be sad to say goodbye to the characters, and I wish we learned Dru's full name, and how she broke the hold that was on Ash, and a bit more about where her touch comes from, and that group of people/creatures. That would've been nice, it doesn't feel fully resolved just yet. ...more
