What Members Thought

I will be honest in saying that I wasn't entirely sure what I would think of this book based on the blurb. I am not a fan of fiction that observes suffering closely, in general. So the concept of a little girl who hasn't eaten in months and is still alive made me squeemish. But I loved her novel Frog Music and heard good buzz about this one so I thought I would give it a shot when I saw it available on NetGalley.

2024: banger, haven't revisited. im curious about that FRIEND- I dont have friends so...

Initially I had slight reservations about how much I’d enjoy The Wonder; it was kind of a slow start, the Irish bashing made me uncomfortable (guilt of the English no doubt) and Lib seemed self-satisfied and superior. As the chapters went by however, the book drew me in and although there were inevitabilities in the plot, especially where relationships were concerned, the fate of Anna was never obvious and as such I kept eagerly turning the pages.

An enjoyable commuter read that kept me entertained on my morning train ride to work. Disappointed in the ending, however. A bit too "tidy" for my liking.
