I’d previously enjoyed Choo’s novel The Ghost Bride - although l didn’t realize until after l’d finished The Night Tiger that they are by the same author, at which point the similar themes and motifs became apparent. In particular, they share the inclusion of elements of folklore and folk belief and an examination of the situation of a young Asian woman within her family and society.

I really enjoyed this book. I was intrigued from page one. (What other book starts out with a dying man instructing a little boy to retrieve his missing finger? How could I NOT be intrigued?) There was one particular element that bothered me: the way that one character treats another character when "professing love." It was very problematic and bothered me a lot, but overall there was a lot to like.

Another great Reese Witherspoon read! I have been enjoying the books I have chosen that are Reese monthly book club picks. This is a unique story - part drama, part mystery, part suspense, part love story. Many things wrapped up into one in this book. I was never bored listening to this audio. The author does a great job, her voice and inflections are wonderful! All of Reese's books in my opinion are great listens.
